Please note that due to COVID-19 we are working remotely for the most part, respecting the guidance of Public Health policy and offering virtual tours initially of our units and properties. Masks are required in common areas of our buildings at all times, and we recommend the use of KN-95 masks, available from the Canadian Red Cross. Avenues to Housing when obtaining it is difficult.
In Ontario, it is against the law for a landlord to refuse to rent to you because of your race, colour, ethnic background, birthplace or citizenship, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, disability, marital status, or because you are pregnant, have children, are unemployed, or are on social assistance (OW welfare or ODSP). Housing discrimination is still a widespread problem, though, and Hope Housing aims to provide an avenue for people who are refused by other landlords.
Our Homes
Most of our current holdings are comprised of small, multi-unit buildings in residential areas. We specialize in studio, bachelor, junior and one bedroom units that are self-contained and allow our clients to find fullfilling, independent lives where they can concentrate on the other building blocks of their lives once housed.
Rejection Stops Here
Poor credit, lack of references, young or old age, relationship status, criminal records, Disability, physical or otherwise and including past problematic substance use, should not be a barrier to housing. Discrimination ends at Hope Housing.
Government Assistance
Ontario Works, housing grants and market-rate top-up programs, Ontario Disability Support Pensions, Canadian Pension Plan, Veteran's benefits, and others means of assisted income are welcome.
Ending Jail to Streets
Criminality is often the result of trauma, poverty and under-housing. There exist no goverment programs to house people released from jail onto the streets, perpetuating the cycle. Hope Housing provides that safety net for many of our clients.
We collaborate with social services, client support workers, shelters, probation and parole officers, municipalities, NGO's, treatement centers, and individual clients and their supporters to make sure that nobody gets shut out of fair, attainable housing. Talk to one of us today if you or someone in your caseload or life are having difficulty finding housing.
Our Individual Housing Units
Nobody would rent to me when they heard that I was on ODSP after a car accident. Hope Housing gave me the opportunity to address my health needs from a great home base.
Housing my most vulnerable is always a priority. Knowing I don't have to battle and convince landlords as part of my case management is a blessing.
It is an honour to work with an organization that is so dedicated to social justice and equity. I leave work glowing over the good work that we do in the community.
